clairvoyance (from the French for “clear seeing”) The claimed psychic power by which certain persons say they can “see” information about living beings or even about an insentient object or location without using the ordinary sensory means. Related to clairaudience. A clairvoyant——a person possessing this ability——often uses a scrying device to perform the act. Crystal gazing and even tea leaf reading can be included in this category, and each works equally well.
