Tucson Skeptics with Terry Horgan Print
Sunday, September 14 2008, 1:30pm - 5:00pm by asmith
Starts

Sunday, September 14th at 1:30 pm

Location

University of Arizona Duval Auditorium, UMC. 1501 North Campbell Avenue. Free parking in Zone 1 of UA parking lot on Sundays.

Terry Horgan will give an overview of recent and current work in the philosophy of mind that is aimed at locating mental phenomena within a scientific, naturalistic, metaphysical worldview. He will describe some of the dominant recent approaches that seek to describe mentality in terms of materialist metaphysics—as essentially just physico-chemical processes within the brain. He will describe some of the most prominent challenges that have been raised against such materialist accounts and explain why these non-materialist approaches can still be regarded as versions of scientific naturalism about the mind. Dr. Horgan will also summarize some of his own recent and current work on these issues.
