Retreat by John Edward Print E-mail

Surprise! Just as the Cold Reading Bingo card designed by Richard Rockley/Skeptico was announced here on SWIFT, the Larry King listing for Friday’s show changed to state that James Van Praagh would be appearing with a claimed psychic named “Lisa Williams,” rather than with John Edward! Could it be that Edward thought his performance could not survive the dreadful Bingo test…? And that Van Praagh thought that he could…?

So, just substitute Lisa for John, and use the same categories. They all work the same way.

Refer to randi.org/content/view/124/2/ for the Bingo card.

So instead we get Shirley MacLaine?! And I love the Larry King website and their "Do you believe in Ghosts?" poll. On the results page they make the statement "This is not a scientific poll". Hmmm... so why not run that same disclaimer on the crawl space while Shirley MacLaine is rambling on about speaking with spirits? "This is not a proven scientific phenomenon..."

Lisa Williams is at least nice to look at and has an accent, which to American minds makes her 1000 times more credible (and hawt) than John Edward.

Hi my name is Frenchy and work in China as an English teacher. I thought it would be a nice way to test this cold readers with a Chinese audience. It would be fun to see how many Chinese know a peter? yeah the catholic saint or a mary; sure which one the mother or the sinner. Or would they try to guess if somebody know chong, xing or something like this. Can they talk with death chinese spirits? Maybe a fun thing to try.

In regards to Marc Mielke, speak for yourself, not others.

I also agree with Frenchy! In addition, it would be enlightening to see if any mediums could get in touch with a dead mathematician. It would then, surely, be a simple task for the discarnate number-cruncher to solve a few second-order differential equations, or factorise a simple quadratic. To spice things up a little, maybe a dead Chinese mathematician could be contacted?

I agree with Jympton, but I bet they could just weasel out of solving such an equation by saying, "Oh, the spirit would love to solve that, but being incorporeal, he lacks a pencil and a piece of paper to keep all the numbers in order! Um, next.. next question! You, yeah, you the one with the sad and touching story that doesn't involve math!"
