For thousands of years the only thing people had to rely on to help heal themselves was prayer (to many different gods) and uneducated, but none the less revered, medicine men (and some women). The results? The worst outbreaks of disease the world has ever know and life spans in the 24 to 45 year range at best.

This woman has a chance to help further science by allowing herself, and in particular her immune system, to be studied closely. It will be a real shame if she sticks with this silly superstitious "explanation".

This is also another example of how dangerous organized religion is, as they hang onto this one in a million person, whose body healed itself, while millions of their followers die every year from much more mundane illnesses. - Kajabla61

Whenever I am sick, I become bedridden. I have recovered from every single illness I have ever had. Therefore, my bed is a miracle bed and ladies from across the globe should sleep over to experience the joy...

Most serious illnesses, even metastatic cancer, have rare, as yet unexplained, examples of spontaneous recovery, with or without prayer.

Now, if some serious praying resulted in an amputee growing a new leg, I'd be down on my knees with the best of them giving the usual sycophantic, self-hating adulation to whichever deity was responsible!

The article said there was no scientific explanation for her recovery. I can think of one. How about her own immune system kicked in with a vengeance? Her immune system was all she had left and since it was not compromised by chemo or radiation it may have figured out the key to combat the cancer. Not a route I would recommend, but she had little else going for her. - ClareZ

A few weeks ago I was stricken with a nasty cold. I began a daily ritual of drinking plenty of my favorite tea from my official JREF mug. A few days later, I felt pretty darned good.

Miracles happen???

Yes, this really happened to me.
I was driving through a intersection one day when a Car crashed into me.
I had no time to stop! BANG!!! :o
I was all shook up!
The other car had some real bad damage on it's front end.
It's bumper was falling off as he drove away!
Yes, I was in what you would call a hit and run. >:(
I managed to pull over to the side of the road.
I got out my car so I could calm down and take a look at the damage to my car.
Wow, the only thing damage was my personalized tag that said "SKEPTIC" on it!!!
It was a miracle! :'(
I was so full of joy as I put my hands together and looked up to the sky and said "Thank Darwin"!!! ;D - KS_SKEPTIC

I hear that just owning a copy of P&T's How To Play In Traffic has resulted in healing several cases of excessive anal seepage (EAS). - CasaRojo

I'm not fortunate enough to own any ancient relics, so when I'm sick, I put my autographed Penn and Teller Bullshit DVD next to me, and I always get well again. P & T be praised! - MrIncredible

The really offensive bit for me is that it takes some supernatural BS before the Vatican is ready to proclaim that, say, Father Damien was a really good guy. And if no miracles happen? Sorry mate, but it means you're not the real deal. - Bruno
