Iraqi General Turns Down JREF Challenge, Gets Arrested for Bomb Detector Scam PDF Print E-mail
Swift
Written by James Randi

Sometimes, things just work out… A couple years ago, I wrote to several authorities in Iraq offering them the JREF million-dollar prize if they could produce evidence that the ADE561 dowsing-stick actually worked.  This is the device on which American taxpayers spent over $85 million just to supply it to Iraq to protect them. It was supposed to be an explosives-detector, but it just didn’t work, having no “innards” at all – just a swiveling rod that flopped to-and-fro. None of these authorities ever responded, and I suspected it was because they were already making their own profit from fluffing up the price…

Well, Iraqi police have just arrested Major General Jihad al-Jabiri, the commander of the bomb squad and one of those who received my letter! He’s a high-ranking police official who handled the business involved in buying the ADE561 toy, which was widely used by police and soldiers at security checkpoints and was meant to be a key weapon in the defense against insurgents. Sure.

The police finally got around to wondering how a series of blasts had killed hundreds in recent years despite the use of the ADE561. Militants had gotten trucks, buses and cars packed with explosives through Baghdad’s numerous checkpoints, with no trouble – and those checkpoints had been “protected” by the fake device!

The Iraqi police said that they have documents and incriminating evidence in the explosives detector case that point directly to al-Jabiri, who would seem to have a very dim future in his homeland…  He’s charged with corruption – no stranger to Iraq, I believe. He was just doing what the boys all do.

The UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced last year that it would ban exports to Iraq and Afghanistan of the ADE651 device, which is made in the UK. It’s shaped like a pistol and features a swiveling antenna meant to point at explosives. Of course, woo-woos continue to assert that the rod works, but the sound of explosions makes it hard to hear them….

The police say that al-Jabiri recommended that Iraq sign five contracts to supply security forces with the detectors for between $38,000 and $56,000 each. Jim McCormick, who makes the things in the UK, turns them out for $100 each…

finally some good news
it's so hard to believe that there are people who believe in this nonsense?
i'm having a hard time deciding what's worse, the frauds or the credulous acceptors of this nonsense?
why are people so uncritical, can anyone explain? the only answer i could think of is that it makes them feel better.
i know people who deem homeopathy nonsense, yet they do believe in other woo-woo like chiromency and iridology.
and worse, they consider themselves critical thinkers.

....my sympathy goes out to all the rank and file who objected to this nonsense only to be ordered to walk around with it smilies/angry.gif smilies/cry.gif smilies/smiley.gif smilies/smiley.gif

Great to see you following this one up.

Best news yet, but still a ways to go.

Place your bets who's next:

General Pierre hadji Georgiou, ProSec Lebanon (agents for ADE651 sales to Iraq)
Stelian Ilie at Mira Telecom, Romania, partners to James McCormick and the ADE651

McCormick has money stashed away in both these countries.

Also:
John Wyatt SDS Group UK agents for HEDD1
David Vollmar, Unival Germany. Took the discredited Sniffex from the US. Renamed it Sniffex Plus. Now renamed HEDD1 after the pressure.( Hasn't Even detected DooDoo Once!)
Horizon Group India. Agents for the GT200
Gary Bolton, Global Technical. GT200
Malcolm Roe
Sam Tree
Yuri Markov

No rest till then. Sign up to our Google Group here:

More pressure needed on UK, German and International authorities to stamp down hard soon.

Now that the reasons for it being kept quiet are out i.e. MOD/DTI (as was) and FO involvement in supporting these damned radios without a receiver/power source, we should see a lot happening in th enext coupla weeks.

Thanks to Bob Couttie for sending the Reuters link earlier this week. Continued lavish prais for Techowiz. The blogs stats are going well up now. Lots of the scammers taking a peek as well.

Cheers.

Since there may be an upcoming trial here, we have to be careful what we say. However, it would not be remiss to point out that in many defence contracts, keeping the buyer happy is a major factor. smilies/wink.gif

I was the soldier who was writing in here from Iraq at the time, trying to get you, and anyone else who would listen to try to get these snake oil salesmen, who were putting Iraqi and American lives at risk.

I want to personally thank you, Mr. Randi, on behalf of all the US and Iraqi soldiers who were begging anyone to listen that these devices were worthless-- and were putting our lives at risk, for sticking with it, and for taking the time to pursue this, even at no personal benefit to yourself.

You have a rather large contingent of troops, grateful that someone back home has our backs, when we're abroad trying to watch yours...

Thank you very much.

Yep. It took far too long, and without Randi we may never have had a chance to get the campaign going here in UK against the British companies involved.

There is still work to do, and you would be welcome to join in the campaign. See links above.

Lots more good stuff to come out yet!!!!!

$100 each? Even that seems like way too much. From the videos I've seen, I'd be surprised if they cost more $10 to make.

I would have thought a charge of "conspiracy to cause explosions" would not be without merit. And that, of course, would place the manufacturers and pushers squarely in the terrorist camp, hopefully in the detention camps as well.

Ricsuth,

Don't bother with Caller X. This person is like a troll, only worse, in that they think they are clever. Due to a very bad case of Dunning-Kruger, arguing with Caller X only inflates the unjustified sense of superiority and intellect. I'm afraid the self reflection skills necessary to overcome this disabling condition are necessarily absent in such sufferers.

In the early 1960s I worked on a UK construction site and we were instructed to use a similar device (to the ADE651) to detect the up-pipes connected to the main drain which was buried beneath the new roads being built. The device had a capsule in the handle in which you placed a small piece of the material you wished to detect below the ground and the divining rods were calibrated with marks such that where they crossed puported to indicate the depth of the target. It was a very expensive exercise in gullibility - although the device was reasonably priced, that didn't make up for the fact that it did not work and tens of thousands of pounds were spent digging holes all over the site.

UN ATTACK
written by Ricsuth, February 25, 2011
Somebody at http://futuremovement.org/foru...=1#post...
reminded me that there were reports UNIFIL in Lebanon using magic wand
swvivelling aerial detectors.

UN Global Compact appears to be a set up for the promotion of the
UNHCR and its application, so as my mail says, I reckon there are
Human Rights aspects to the fake detectors business.

So I have written to the main people on the UN Global Compact website
asking for their input. here's the text of my email:

We believe that the following case is clearly in breach of at least
the Business aspects of the Covenant, if not much wider Human rights
issues as well, in terms of expectations of public officials in
procurement, and individual rights to reasonable protection.

We hope you will help in our campaign to end the fraudulent trade in
fake explosive detectors, by passing this information on to the
appropriate authorities within the UN.

We hope you will agree that companies bribing officials to buy useless
explosives detectors is a disgusting trade. To quote Lieutenant
Colonel Hal Bildack :

"When they say they are selling you something that will save your son
or daughter on a patrol, they’ve crossed an insupportable line into
moral depravity.”

I refer you to the latest BBC Newsnight investigation here for more
information.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxArxIgB9oA&feature=player_embedded

and to the report of the arrest on corruption charges of General al
Jabiri in Iraq,

I specifically request:

1. Is UNIFIL in Lebanon still using a device based on a radio aerial
to detect explsoives? If so, can this be stopped immediately? If not
when and how did UNIFIL come to buy these devices?

2. That the UN via the relevant channels puts out a Worldwide warning
against the use of these devices. Further information can be obtained
fron the City of London Police, or by reply to this email.

Thank you for your interest.

Maybe the General should be given a chance at freedom and McCormick a chance at supporting his device....by walking through a mine field, equipped, of course, with the trusty ADE561. Oh, okay- they can be small mines that only cause a slight limp.

As one with a Nephew who is serving in the US Army, in Iraq, and soon Afghanistan let me say this there is enough for us to worry about without Snake Oil Products like the ADE-651 getting in the way.

Thank you Mr. Randi.

DKL Lifeguard
written by Ricsuth, February 28, 2011
Hi, offshoot of this scandal is the DKL Lifeguard which some of you will remember has been talked about before.

Have got a response from Diodebell who make and sell this rubbish so called people finder.

They are considering taking the MDC! WOW. Want to place your bets now?

Here's the emails so far:

Me to Them:

All you have to do is apply to the JREF at randi.org to take the Million Dollar Challenge.

Imagine, if you win you will get a Million Dollars for a couple of days work, and you will get the sort of free publicity everywhere in the World that would mean you would sell millions of AL-6Ds and become very, very, very rich, very quickly.
It's easy, all you have to do is state clearly what you can achieve with the AL-6D and then prove it in double blind tests. See, nothing to it!
If you win I will become your biggest fan and will never stop saying what a fantastic company you are.
So, over to you. If not we will continue to say that you are criminals and fraudsters and cheats as much as we like and you will do nothing about it bacuase you cannot.
In science it is not up to us to prove you wrong. You make the claims, and you have to produce the evidence. Personal testimonies are worthless.
Understood? Good!

THEM TO ME:
We understand your anger about long distance explosive detectors like ADE651 and GT200 and other that were frauds, and many people got killed while using them. We agree with you.
We have traveled to many countries to demonstrate our system and we have talked to people that have used these fraud products. Now the people are very cautious before they buy other long distance detectors, because of the fraud products. Few countries after testing our product for months they decided to get a small quantity of our very long distance detector and use it for strategic operations.
We are considering if and when we want to take the million dollar challenge and if we want to release our science and technology. Maybe the public is not ready to receive this knowledge yet and if used wrong it can cause big damages to the world.
We understand your anger about the fraud products but still you cannot speak and comment on a device and system that you have not seen and test yourself. You must at least have comments from other people that have used our system. So please, when you mention about our system AL6D, mention who, where, when used it, and the results.
We would like to invite you to come to our training center and get trained on our system. Then you will have your opinion about our product.
Yours FAITHFULLY,
Diodebell team

ME TO THEM:

Dear Sirs,

1. Unless you take the MDC we know that you are frauds. It is very simple. Alternatively a double blind test carried out by the Physics Department of a reputable University.
2. As far as revealing your technology, we have all the information we need already. as with all the other frauds, the DKL cannot work on the principles claimed. I refer you to:
http://www.prod.justnet.org/Lists/JUSTNET Resources/Attachments/1299/Dklanalysis.pdf
3. Of course, if you have credible testing results please forward and we will take a look and respond. You do not publish anything so far which is even vaguely credible.
4. Your arguments for the Lifeguard are the same ones the other fraudsters used.
5.My opinion will only be changed by credible independent third party testing. Not by demonstrations that are rigged/fixed.
So, like David Vollmar at Univel and James McCormick, you are considering the JREF Million Dpollar Challenge. I bet you never take it or any other real testing. Surprise me!
We wait with baited breath.

written by Ricsuth, February 28, 2011
Sorry, in my previous post, got muddled bewteen the DKL Lifeguard (equally rubbish -please sue me DKL!) and the AL-6D from Diodebell! Can you blame me with so many different variations of the fraud around!! Still, ooops!

The emails are between me and Diodebell regarding the AL-6D, not the DKL lifeguard, but we will be chasing them as well!!

So apologies for the confusion. The Sandia report specifically deals with the DKL Lifeguard (showing it to be completely useless). We are of course hopeful that Diodebell will take the MDC, but not very!!!!

But as this crap is still going on in the 21st Century...We are doomed as a species.

There is no wonder that the leaders of these countries go to school in some of the best colleges in the United States and in other Western societies yet they keep their own masses completely uneducated with no common sense.

Actually, I can't comment about other countries when we here in the US seem to give so much to televangilists who promise debt relief and healings by wishful thinking and sending him donations.

Even now with other idiots saying Vacines are a hoax because their kids didn't grown up catching anything when they didn't immunize them...Well DUH!!!!! The Virus or Disease isn't around like it was because of the freaking VACINES!

As a father that I would give my life to protect my kids I'm still trying comprehend HOW!!! anyone can just sit and prey/wish and deny their child insulin saying it's Gods will if he is to be cured or dies. Are people that F'in stupid!
