An Excellent and Responsible Response! PDF Print E-mail
Swift
Written by James Randi

In this article, we told you about reader Greg Rochon’s quite justified complaint concerning the inclusion of astrology in a student counseling service. Go there and read that item, please, then return here.

I asked Greg to report to us if any response was received.

It was:

Hello Mr. Rochon,

Thank you for your email.

We agree that the link to career.astrology.com is completely inappropriate and have removed it from StudentCounsellor.com. and in the next week will review the entire “Cool Links” section.

We value your comments.

Best regards,
Joyce Coleman
StudentCounsellor.com

Every now and then, appropriate reactions are noticed, and we must thank Ms. Coleman and her colleagues for acting this way to remedy what we believe was an error in judgment. Thank you!

And thank you, Greg Rochon…!

A Not So Excellent Response
written by cwniles, November 20, 2008
First, thats pretty cool Greg, one small step eh?

Second.
I am a bit miffed. There was considerable discussion regarding your original article and why there was any mention whatsoever of the NYCPB...the discussion went on for days with no response from JREF whatsover. Then, all the comments are wiped out in the new site launch, which is understandable, BUT, you then post this article which links back to the old article and still, the unexplained references to the NYCPB are there....I guess accuracy has lost some of it's importance around here lately....

I've contacted Randi about this. He's been out of the country for a bit (articles are written ahead of time in many cases.)

I'm sure there is an 'excellent and responsible' explanation for the confusion generated with the original article - and I'm confident Mr. Randi will clear it up when he has more time to focus his attention on the matter.

In the meantime, score one for StudentCounsellor.com and all friends of reason!

Thanks for the response Jeff.

Sorry to be a nuisance about it, I just feel the the NYCPB might have been unfairly treated.

I've been trying to get Washtenaw Community College to review their homeopathic feng shui curriculum for years!

I have talked with Randi, and I'm adding a note to the original article.
