TAM 7 registration is now open! PDF Print E-mail
Swift

We are very pleased to announce that registration for The Amaz!ng Meeting (TAM) 7 is now open!

TAMs are the premier conferences for critical thinkers across the globe, and always feature great speakers, good times, and a warm and wonderful community. TAM 7 will continue that tradition.

tam7_500_2

This year, our keynote speaker is Bill Prady, the executive producer of the hit TV show The Big Bang Theory. We also have Randi, of course, as well as JREF President Phil Plait, science writer Jennifer Ouellette, paranormal investigator Joe Nickell, The Skeptic Society's Michael Shermer, and a passel of other great speakers. Check the speakers page for the list of who will be there.

We have all sorts of plans for TAM 7. Critical thinking workshops, paper presentations, magic shows, music (George Hrab!), and even... a talent show. Yes, you read that right. Do skeptics have talent? We'll see.

We're very pleased to be sponsoring a vaccination clinic as well, because Las Vegas has a very low vaccination rate amongst its children. We at the JREF feel strongly that vaccines -- despite the nonsensical rants of some antiscience advocates -- are a vital part of a child's healthcare. A small donation from just some of our TAM 7 attendees will guarantee that a large number of children in the Las Vegas area will be protected from wholly preventable diseases.

There's a lot more going on, and we'll be adding more information to the TAM 7 site as it comes in. Check back often (and we'll update Swift and the News sections of this site, too). TAM 7 will be from July 9 - 12 at the South Point Hotel, Casino, & Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada. We hope to see you there!

[Updated (March 4, 2009): Emily Rosa, who was listed as a speaker for TAM 7, will not be able to attend. Our apologies for this.]

Woo Hoo!

I'm trying to register/pay on-line. Is PayPal the only accepted payment method? While working my way through the checkout process, I notice the 3rd step (Payment Method) is skipped and I'm taken to the final page where PayPal has been selected as the payment method. Can I not enter a credit card number to register for TAM on-line or will I need to do this via snail-mail or fax?

john

EDITED BY JEFF WAGG: No, PayPal just processes payments. You don't need an account there to use a credit card. If you want to pay by check, you can print out the form and mail it. We prefer checks, actually.

Nooo... I've always wanted to go to TAM, but living in Finland and still being only 14 years old is going to get in my way, isn't it? Life is so unfair... *sigh*
Please keep TAMs coming until I'm old enough to pay a visit there!!

Expensive. :(
written by Kaa, February 26, 2009
Any chance of the fees getting lower in the near future? I fear I will never get to attend when it costs that much just to get in on TOP of the flight out there and the hotel room and food and....

EDITED BY JEFF WAGG: This is actually cheaper than last year. The event includes breakfast and lunch Friday and Saturday, and breakfast Sunday. The hotel rates are cheaper too.

We try to make the event as inexpensive as possible, but this will likely be the cheapest you'll see unless a big corporate sponsor underwrites it. Scholarships ARE available to cover the cost of registration. I encourage you to look into that.

I wonder if there is a way to take advantage of the $187 TV ads for plane fare plus 3 nights in Vegas in order to attend the conference. Probably wrong hotels.

How late can I register for TAM 7? I want to take my boyfriend because it starts on his birthday and he's a huge fan of Randi and loves Magic. I'm between jobs and won't get my first Pay check until July 1st, but I am afraid that I will be cutting it too close to register that late before it starts. Would I be able to register there or do you have to do it before hand? I really want to go this year but I don't want to use my credit card so I want to wait until I get a pay check. Also, can you explain the special discounts for first timers and the scholarship program?

EDITED BY JEFFWAGG: You can register at the door.

Some answers for Anim8girl...

You CAN register at the door, but I'd advise against it. It's been sold out the last several times. The scholarships were awarded in February, by the way. As the "discount for first timers," that's a discount for joining the JREF. If you've never been a member of JREF, you can join for $50. That will give you membership for one year, and knocks $75 off the TAM7 registration (saving you $25). You save even more if you're a full-time student (member or nonmember). All of the details are here on the registration page: http://tinyurl.com/bejblg

Good luck! : )

EDITED BY JEFFWAGG: Actually, TAM in Las Vegas has never old out. Some of the events have. This is our biggest venue to date, so I don't think there is any worry about it selling out.
