contrailIt's a nice sunny day, and you wander outside to gaze at the clouds, but all you see are the marks jets leave as they cross overhead.

Ever wonder what those were?

Well, some people think they know exactly what they are. They're chemtrails, noxious chemicals being added to the atmosphere with the full support of the US government.

That's right... even the commercial jets that you fly on vacation are leaving deadly trails of weather control substances and public pacification sprays, and we're all being exposed to them constantly.

Oh, I wish I could say I was making that up. From the site "Sedona's Big Picture:"

What all the evidence is slowly but surely adding up to is a vast project, carried out in secret, and consisting of a mutitude of sub-projects, whose purpose is to radically alter, at the very least, the atmospheric environment. This is being carried out illegally, without the knowledge or consent of the very citizens who are funding it. In this respect alone we are, I believe, looking at the largest criminal act in the history of the human race.

Therefore the painstaking documentation of each possible aspect of this program is of inestimable value. As we steadily come closer to understanding the true magnitude and outrageousness of this deliberate secret transformation of the very atmospheric envelope of the planet, we will need ever more careful organization of our thoughts and materials. We began with chemtrails, and following the tracks has led us to contemplating an almost inconceivably complex, interconnected, multi-purpose, and criminally secret program.

Yet however complex, this illegal secrecy, combined with the unfolding picture of a hidden group possessing both the means and the hubris to alter a planetary atmosphere, must be exposed. This is already not only the greatest imaginable subversion of the democratic process, but it may well turn out to be the most perilous and life-threatening of all short-sighted quasi-scientific military/governmental/corporate exploits.

There are those of us that believe, however, that what you're observing is actually contrails, which according to aviationreviews.com:

are usually formed when the air temperature is below -38F degrees, this usually occurs at altitudes between about 28,000 and 40,000 feet. The process starts when exhaust is expelled from the engine and mixes with the cold air, then the water vapor condenses into droplets, which almost instantly freeze into tiny ice crystals.

I must say that this secret government entity must be very clever to produce chemicals that look exactly like contrails when they're released. Though I wonder, if they're so clever, why didn't they make them invisible, or only release them at night?

The sad part about this is that no amount of evidence will ever convince the true believer that the government isn't spraying us with chemicals. Even if you could show them that a particular plane didn't have chemicals onboard, they'd insist that others did.

I note with humor that the aviationreview.com article mentions reports of Canada Geese leaving contrails. Or maybe they're involved too? And if they're involved, doesn't that mean Canada must be involved?

I don't know about you, but I'm investing in an umbrella. You can't be too safe.

Aircraft produce a large amount of water vapor thanks to combustion. All other combustion gases do not exist in a high enough concentration to be visible (although they can be detectable in the right conditions).

Now the water vapor, whether or not it forms a visible trail, can be detected by some infrared imagers on satellites given suitable conditions. Ooo. Now the woosters can claim they're being bombarded with chemicals even if they don't see a contrail.

Mass spectrometry is about 80 years old now (if we credit JJ Thompson with the development of the first mass spectrometers) and is a very well established technique. The woosters can buy their own instrument and prove the existence of these chemicals. The right instrument and detectors can detect particles mixed in air at approximately 1 part chemical per trillion (10^12) parts air. At the very least the detection limits are 1 part chemical per billion (10^9) parts air. These are at least on the order of homeopathic remedies, which we generally regard to be worthless (no effect other than placebo) but at least harmless. Now if the woosters convince themselves that Big Bad Capitalism is providing faulty instruments or faulty software which censor these non-existent mind control chemicals of theirs, the woosters are welcome to develop the technology themselves, publish all the details of their instrument construction, calibration, testing, etc, and the results of their measurements. If they have the time, money, and expertise to do it, we're looking at a minimum of 2 years before they get results and maybe another 2 years to do adequate documentation. The simplest of instruments is really not that difficult to produce; just look at how long it took JJ Thompson to have his instrument built. The woosters have a choice of a huge number of experiments to demonstrate the charge/mass measurement precision and the detection limit of their instruments. I'm sure the public would love to hear from them once they prove the existence of these mind control chemicals.

Well it must be a world wild conspiracy and not limited to the US. Over here in Finland we see it all the time. Maybe the US in paying the EU countries to "poison" the atmosphere. smilies/shocked.gif smilies/shocked.gif Or maybe that is what they want me to think...

Just how old is that site you linked to?
written by Squid, March 22, 2009
I couldn't find a post on it any later than 2001. Most were from 1999... nearly a decade old. (Admittedly I didn't tear the site apart and look at the code, etc... I'm not a techie.) My question is... why point to a site so old, instead of something current, like rense? The old link made me think that you were referring to something that had blown over, but just a quick google search showed plenty of recent sites.

So, why the link to the old site?

Why not? Have the details changed over the years.

Want some entertaining reading? Do searches for orgone energy, chembusters, and especially sylphs. I thought there was an old column at the JREF on chemtrails, but I can't find it.

Maybe mine is the wrong attitude, but sometimes you gotta laugh to keep from crying.

Why would every country in the world want sick citizens swamping their hospitals and wasting tons of money off healthcare? And to make sure no one remains inaffected they even spray over seas and uninhabited areas? Common sense anyone?

Back in the 1998/1999 time frame I was involved in a Y2K oriented forum. As a programmer, my job at the time was to go through the clients software and find and fix any parts that were likely to fail due to the zeros. There was a lot that needed fixing, but that's a different story. Our Y2K forum was invaded by some of these contrail conspiracy wackos. I told them at the time, and it is still true, the conspiracy doesn't meet the "reasonableness" test. In order for this to be true, all aircraft mechanics would have to be in on it. All flight engineers would have to be in on it. Various fuel handlers, FAA inspectors, and who knows who all else would have to be in on it. If just one, ever, blew the whistle it would be the political scandal of the century. And keeping all of those intelligent, skilled people either ignorant of the situation or quiet about it is entirely unreasonable. But then conspiracy theorists aren't known for being reasonable.

The conspiracies boggle my mind. When I first chanced upon one of the chemtrail sites, I had to reread things to try to figure out if they were serious. The Montana skies where I live been filed with these trails since the 60's. The one person per square mile must be very important in the overall plan or were they just trying to get me?

The worst part about all this chemtrail nonsense is it keeps the masses in the dark. Don't you people get it? Spreading rumours about the government secretly gassing us is just a red herring to throw us off the trail about who really planned 9/11! Wake up, people!

I've watched many documentaries about the air war over Europe and Japan during WWII.
The high altitude bombing runs would often leave contrails.

Golly gee, does that mean that the bombing was a sham and the real reason the Allies won was because they used "public pacification sprays?" smilies/smiley.gif

... The woosters can buy their own instrument and prove the existence of these chemicals.

They don't need to go through all that trouble, they can simply say "It's in the Bible, it must be true! Read the Book Of Ridiculous chapter 12, verse 15."

I am a pilot for a major US airline and can tell you for a fact that there is no "chemtrail" apparatus on any of our aircraft. Die Anyway is 100% correct. The number of people who would have to be in on it and keep the secret would be immense. I would be one of the first to blow the whistle if I was poisoning people from my aircraft.

Thanks, Jeff. I know contrail people. You are correct that no amount of reasoning will change their mind. I tagged one of my photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/mully410/3025764164/ with the word "contrail" and started getting hits from a chemtrail site. Turns out the author had a Flickr widget pulling everything with that tag to his site.

If the powers-that-be want a sickly populace, isn't it easier & cheaper to just brainwash Americans into believing that national health is a sinister socialist plot that would take away the money they worked hard to earn to support lazy, drug-abusing, cable-TV-watching leeches, who would wastefully go to the most expensive providers for nonexistent health complaints just to spite those who do work; so those who have insurance can instead pay gigantic premiums that support armies of administrators whose job is to figure out how to not pay for health services that are both necessary and the raison d'etre for health insurance? smilies/tongue.gif

One thing I have noticed whenever I look at this sort of thing is the propensity to use very long/big words. It is almost as if using words that the average American does not use (or uses rarely) lends some sort of authenticity to the argument (and I use that term argument very loosely). In fact, the term chemtrail is used only once in the entire article (I typically brace myself with some alcohol before I read this sort of pseudo-intellectual claptrap). The rest is nestled in big, scientific sounding words which, taken together, nearly caused me to fall asleep. Skimming over the rest of the website proved to be quite fascinating, if only to see the mishmash of various crackpot theories, conspiracy rants and (gasp!) factual information (albeit the latter is scarce and usually mashed between the former two. I recommend you read the website as well, unless you have high blood pressure, in which case take your meds before perusing or avoid it entirely.

Otherwise, it is quite the amusing website.
