Do vaccines cause autism? Jenny McCarthy thinks so. She thinks her “mommy instincts” are more reliable than science. For those of us who think science is a better guide to knowledge than the instincts of celebrities, the evidence is in. Vaccines don’t cause autism. Vaccines are safe: far safer than not vaccinating.

The whole idea was a “manufactoversy” – a manufactured controversy based on junk science and perpetrated by unscrupulous researchers and irresponsible media reports. So many parents have been frightened into rejecting or delaying vaccines that vaccine-preventable diseases are staging a comeback, and our public health is endangered. How did this happen?

sas-libelIn a recent Swift post, guest blogger Naomi Baker wrote about friend of the JREF (and TAM London speaker) Simon Singh, a skeptic and journalist who literally wrote the book on "alternative" medicine. Simon also writes for the UK newspaper The Guardian, and in a recent article he said that the British Chiropractic Association made claims that were "bogus".

The BCA was not happy with this, of course. But instead of providing any evidence that what they claim is not bogus - evidence, in this case, which does not exist for reasons you can probably figure out yourself - they decided to sue Simon.

bairdMy good friend Bill Baird – a prominent activist for civil rights – will be on ABC New's Internet program today – Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 – on Nightline's Face Off show. It will be aired live from 12:30 - 1pm and then available at any time online after that.

The Pro-Choice League – Bill’s group – are raising money in order to go to the annual National Right to Life Committee Convention again this year.  Bill has attended more right-to-life conventions than most of the anti-abortion side for the past 35 years! They need to raise $2,500 to pay for the trip. The JREF and I, personally, are sending contributions to Bill, and we invite your participation.

vithoulkasYou probably know that homeopathy involves diluting substances down well beyond Avogadro's Limit, to the point where there are no atoms or molecules of the substance remaining - but the medicinal value is said to still be there. Don't look at me!  It's their idea, not mine! It's all a matter of magical vibrations, of course...

If you've ever wondered what homeopathy is really all about, you can now have revealed to you by a devout disciple of the calling, George Vithoulkas, on his website.

We've always said that homeopathy is eligible for the million-dollar prize, but Julia Wilson, Development Officer for Sense About Science in London needs it here on the page – for some strange reason. We've offered it on BBC, in print, by lectures, all over the world, and it has always – 100% of the time – failed tests. It was reported as a failure in Nature Magazine...

So, Julia, here it is, again, as if it had to be repeated once more: if anyone can show that homeopathy works, the James Randi Educational Foundation will pay them the million-dollar prize...
